It is very hard to choose an inventory tracking software from the market
today: there are dozens and even hundreds of items from different vendors and
it is a time consuming issue to test them one by one in order to choose the one
you will use in your network.
In this article we will suggest a few simple requirements a good inventory
tracking software should apply:
- The software should not require the Network Administrator to manually install agent software on each computer in the network
- The software should not crash in any possible (or impossible) computer hardware or software configuration
- The software should collect as much information about the target computer as possible
- The software should not only have certain built-in analisys tools, but also store or export collected inventory information into an open format to allow the user to run third party tools against it
Following the rules above, you'll never make a mistake choosing a wrong
inventory software.
