1. server inventory database hardware and software load: anomalously high processor load levels, sudden decreasing of free disk space, dramatic increasing of the network traffic often are indication of a network attack;
2. errors in the log files and reports: some error messages in the log files of the software servers or server OS event log are acceptable, but accumulating and analysis of such messages help reveal suddenly often or systematic failures;
3. the state of potentially vulnerable objects, for example, those ones which "protection" can be hardly monitored directly (unreliable third-party software, changed/unverified network configuration): undesirable changing access rights to some resource or file contents can be evidence of "enemy" intrusion
