There are two fundamentally different approaches to perform the basic inventory control. The first one requires running the client module on the workstations (client agent) that completes collection of all needed information with further transferring the report to a server. As a result, with a great number of devices, the polling time is shortened and the server and network load are decreased. Another positive side of this method is safety. The network firewall installed on the workstations will be able to work in normal mode not preventing the local process of collecting data for reports. The successful interconnection of the server and client agent is easy to provide: it is enough to create the correspondent rule in the firewall settings. Normally, you need to open the port used by the tool for data exchange and specify the server IP address. The client agent also can save its report in a specially intended folder on the server using the standard OS methods for access to the remote resources. It is possible to avoid additional time expenses implementing the packet mode installation that does not require the administrator's attendance or implement the client agent as a tool that does not require installing at all and allows running from a login script.
